Euro 2024: Germany Thump Scotland 5-1 in Opening Match
Hosts secure sensational victory in front of home crowd
Germany got the defense of their European Championship title off to an ideal start on Friday, thrashing Scotland 5-1 in Munich in the opening game of Euro 2024. The hosts were dominant throughout and took the lead after just 10 minutes when Jamal Musiala fired home from close range. Leroy Sane doubled their advantage shortly after with a stunning strike from outside the box.
Musiala and Wirtz Shine for Germany
Musiala and fellow youngster Florian Wirtz were the stars of the show for Germany. Musiala scored one and set up another, while Wirtz was a constant threat with his pace and dribbling skills. Scotland were outplayed for much of the match and rarely threatened the German goal. Their only bright spark was Che Adams, who pulled a goal back in the 75th minute to make the score 5-1.
The victory is a record-breaking one for Germany in the European Championship, and it sets them up perfectly for the rest of the tournament. They will now face Portugal in their second group game on Wednesday, while Scotland will take on Croatia.
